In 1999 the California Heights Neighborhood Association was recognized by the Cultural Heritage Commission for it's innovative leadership in promoting the historic district through its newsletter, house plaques and home tour.

The house plaque program was started in 1997 as a way for homeowners to show their pride in owning a historic home. The plaques are currently displayed on more than 200 California Heights homes.
